In the past, the fast charging of electric vehicles was mostly stuck at the bottleneck of "10% -80% takes more than 30 minutes", and the last 20% of the battery often experienced a "cliff like drop in efficiency", making the charging experience far less convenient than refueling. And BYD's second-generation blade battery completely rewrites this situation:

 

Normal temperature scenario: It only takes 5 minutes to charge the battery from 10% to 70%, which happens to be a short gap between parking to buy water or using the toilet, and can replenish 400-500 kilometers of range; Charging to 97% only takes 9 minutes, achieving a "fully charged departure". On site testing at the press conference showed that the Song Ultra EV can complete 10% -97% power replenishment in 8 minutes and 51 seconds at room temperature, far exceeding industry expectations.

 

Extreme cold scenario: In the extreme environment of minus 30 , it only takes 12 minutes to charge from 20% to 97%, which is only 3 minutes more than normal temperature, breaking the industry curse of "trams are difficult at Shanhaiguan". Low temperature performance is fully utilized.

 

More importantly, this technology achieves a balance between "flash charging" and "high energy density" - the energy density of the second-generation blade battery has increased by more than 5% compared to the first generation, balancing battery life and energy replenishment efficiency. At the same time, through the upgrade of the full link ion flash system and full temperature intelligent thermal management, the transmission of lithium ions is smoother and the temperature control throughout the charging process is more stable.

2. Technical confidence: Five core breakthroughs to build a solid foundation for flash charging

 

BYD's industry-leading flash charging experience is attributed to five key technological breakthroughs:

 

Material upgrade: The voltage platform of the lithium manganese iron phosphate positive electrode has been raised to 3.8V, and the lithium storage capacity of the silicon carbon negative electrode is four times that of traditional graphite. Combined with customized electrolytes, a high-speed lithium-ion transmission channel has been built, bidding farewell to "charging congestion".

 

High voltage architecture: The entire 1000V high-voltage architecture eliminates the boost module, resulting in an energy utilization rate of nearly 99%; The 1500V silicon carbide chip can carry a high current of 1000A, achieving low loss and efficient charging.

 

Thermal management optimization: Pulse self heating technology+low-temperature optimized electrolyte, combined with full temperature range intelligent temperature control, allows the battery to maintain stable charging efficiency in an environment of -30 , completely solving the pain points of low-temperature charging.

 

Safety redundancy: The flash charging and needle punching test does not cause fire or explosion, and the thermal diffusion and bottom impact tests exceed the national standard. The battery cells are maintained for life, balancing speed and safety.

 

Energy storage adaptation: Megawatt flash charging 2.0 single gun peak power reaches 1500kW, combined with super fast discharge energy storage system, does not overload the power grid, does not add a large amount of land occupation, and is user-friendly and grid friendly.

 

 

 

 


3.Industry significance: The first half of electrification has come to a perfect conclusion

 

BYD Chairman bluntly stated at the press conference, 'This is the real flash charging!'. BYD's technology landing this time not only puts an end to the energy replenishment anxiety of new energy vehicles, but also achieves an equal experience between charging and refueling - the troubles of queuing for high-speed charging during holidays and planning energy replenishment stations for long distances will become history.

 

More importantly, the second-generation blade battery will be installed in mainstream models such as Seagull, Dolphin, Qin, etc., allowing flash charging technology to sink from high-end models to the mass market, promoting the upgrading of energy replenishment standards in the entire new energy industry.

 

From "charging anxiety" to "flash charging freedom", BYD has honed its technology over six years and delivered a perfect answer for the era of electrification.
