1. The biggest difference in core structure: Can it be charged externally

HEV (without charging port)

HEV cannot be charged with external charging stations, and the entire power system relies on engine operation and brake energy recovery to replenish energy from small capacity batteries. The battery size is very small, only used as auxiliary power, and the entire process cannot be separated from gasoline.

Simple understanding: Essentially, it is still a gasoline car, with the electric motor only helping to save fuel.

PHEV (with charging port)

PHEVs are equipped with large capacity power batteries and support external power replenishment from household sockets and public charging stations. When the battery is fully charged, it can be driven by pure electric; After the battery is depleted, it automatically switches to hybrid mode operation.

There are two forms of a car: a pure electric car with electricity, and a hybrid car without electricity.

2.Respective strengths

HEV

-No worries about using the car, no need for charging conditions at all. As long as you refuel, you can run it, and the operating habits are the same as a gasoline car. There is no anxiety for long-distance and remote areas.

-The structure is stable and reliable. The development of hybrid technology has been highly mature for many years, with small battery capacity and slow loss, resulting in a low failure rate.

-When stuck in traffic and sliding at low speeds, the motor intervenes to drive, reducing engine idle consumption, resulting in stable and low fuel consumption in urban areas.

PHEV

-If the daily mileage is between 50-150km, it can be fully charged for pure electric driving throughout the entire journey. Short distance commuting achieves almost zero fuel costs.

-Stronger power and better driving experience. Powered by a large battery, it is driven by an electric motor throughout the entire process of starting and low-speed operation, ensuring a quiet and smooth ride without any jerks. The combined output of the motor and engine results in stronger overall horsepower, leading to better acceleration.

-No worries about battery range. Has electricity use electricity, no electricity use fuel. The comprehensive range can easily exceed 1000km with full fuel and full charge. Long distance travel does not require frequent searching for charging stations, balancing the comfort of electric vehicles with the advantages of gasoline vehicle endurance.

The above are the main differences between HEV and PHEV. There is no absolute better type, only the type that suits one's own lifestyle. If you want to buy a hybrid car, which one would you prefer?
